Open Access We are an open access journal based off of social justice and writing. We aim to provide researchers and the public with free access to academic work from students at Roosevelt University’s Social Justice Writing class. The open access movement began in early 2000s. In most cases, students, researchers, and the general public cannot access scholarly work without paying a price to view it. Institutions that are not affiliated with universities do not have open access (free access) to research/ journals/ articles, etc. Approximately 40% of researchers today still cannot access information they need (Uk study). We can bring about change by educating people about open access, advocating for policies that promote open access, and publishing in open access journals.
This movement seeks to provide information to readers free of charge. This is made possible via either permission from the copyright holders or expiration of that copyright. (legacy) There are, essentially, two main divisions of open access. The first kind refers to original publication.Under green open access, one may freely read an article originally requiring money to view. Under gold open access, the article is initially published in an open access journal and freely available. Besides this, how the material is used is also an issue. If an article is provided as Gratis open access, that means the reader may freely read it. However, if it is Libre open access, permission barriers are also removed, allowing the reader greater freedom in how they may use the article. (openacess.eprints.org) It should also be noted that open access is neither intended to be a business model, nor to put paid journals out of business. (legacy) |
